Datalink’s VOC900B provides 4G PTToC (Push-To-Talk over Cellular) connectivity where available. The VOC900B is not a replacement for current UHF/VHF radios. It allows crews to link up with various ground crews on common channels or groups. The VOC900B has built in live maps and the ability to stream live video when required.
Wildfires and Bambi-Buckets
Many helicopters are involved in fighting wildfires. They are often first on the scene with Bambi-Bucket water drops. Datalink’s WebGate + 4G-LTE/WiFi puts the internet into any helicopter or fixed wing aircraft for operation under 15,000 ft. FireLink is a cloud-based openly shared variant of WebGate allowing assets involved in wildfire firefighting with GPS and unit I.D. to appear in virtual real-time on multiple common screens on the ground and in the air. Helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft crew can see the actual GPS location of their aircraft on their laptop or tablet relative to ground targets such as wildfire hot-spots. Firefighters and SAR teams in under two seconds over 4G.
4G for Aerial Operations
In urban regions cell coverage is limited by buildings, requiring a number of cell towers to provide quality service throughout the region. Cell tower transmissions with aircraft are not handicapped by urban infrastructures and service is only limited to LoS (Line of Sight). At ground level the horizon is the LoS limit which is approximately 10 miles. An aircraft at 5,000 ft has a LoS of 85 miles. Within a radius of 85 miles a number of populated regions with cell towers should be within range. Currently 3G is more prevalent than 4G in remote regions. GPS and text messages can be sent over 3G networks. 4G allows streaming video, long range voice PTT, GPS, and texting.
How San Diego Police Helicopters Moved Over to 4G-LTE
The new 4G-LTE service operates in milliseconds allowing for tablet screens in aircraft and ground personnel screens to be in GPS sync in seconds. Where aircraft are out of range of 4G-LTE cell towers the NAL QUICKSILVER can provide worldwide coverage for video and voice communications.
Long Range PTT
Current UHF/VHF voice PTT is limited typically to line of sight with the base. 4G-LTE and optional NAL QUICKSILVER greatly extends the coverage area where 4G networks are not available.
Global SIM Airtime Pricing
Datalink’s 4G-LTE/3G airtime service provides global auto-connect coverage with unlimited voice/data service starting at $29 per month in North America. Live video streaming costs $99 per month. Datalink may apply a different billing structure in some countries.

WebGate can be installed in dispatch servers, laptops, tablets, and large screen smartphones. WebGate is cloud based or can be installed in a regional server. WebGate can act as a primary dispatch desk or as a messaging screen in field applications including emergency alert processing. WebGate can link offices around the globe sharing screens similar to ZOOM linking. WebGate is compatible with ESRI and Arc-GIS, placing weather maps on the screen.
Our Global Clients
Datalink International and its core team have been working together for over 20 years. In that time Datalink has created specialized solutions for a wide range of clients around the globe. The Royal New Zealand Air Force equipped its P3 Orion long range patrol aircraft with Datalink i50 MobiHubs and were later involved in the search for the missing Boeing 777 MH370. The Swedish Space Agency uses the Datalink i50 MobiHub to control high altitude scientific balloons rising to altitudes over 100,000 ft.
US Embassy Attack
On September 2011 Taliban fighters attacked the US embassy in Kabul. A few days later the US State Department contacted Datalink to ask if Datalink could provide a GPS application to work with the embassy’s P25 portable radios. Datalink delivered a working solution, including DataGate and WebGates, within a few weeks. Providing GPS tracking for all their P25 portables.
London Metropolitan Police
In 2007 the London Metropolitan Police anti-terrorism squad contracted Datalink to develop an Android-based, covert GPS tracking system for undercover officers.
